HUMANITARIAN AID
Since the onset of the 2022 war with Russia, the non-profit arm of the Office of the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine – Mitzvah for Ukraine – has spearheaded humanitarian aid and relief efforts to Ukrainians from all backgrounds. Guided by the biblical injunction of “Lo Taamod al Dam Re’echa,” – “do not stand idly by while your neighbor bleeds” (Vayikra 19:16), Mitzvah for Ukraine has focused on delivering and distributing thousands of tons of food, medical supplies, and other humanitarian aid across the country. The team has also assisted in the massive evacuation of over 40,000 people over the Moldovan border.
Saving lives in such situation has demanded incredible ingenuity and adaptation. With a lack of available resources, fuel, food, and medical supplies had to be found and purchased. With the help of visionary donors, our team was able to purchase and outfit buses with hospital beds – some of which were retrofitted overnight – to transport the elderly, pregnant women, the wounded, and those with medical complications.

Throughout this war, we have been operating soup kitchens which are feeding thousands of people, supporting refugee camps across all of Ukraine, and urgently delivering critical humanitarian support. Additionally, several programs have been launched to provide assistance to different parts of society. Thousands of volunteers are assisting with hospitals, in construction and emergency rebuilding of homes, delivery of food, medical care, mental health support, and animal rescue.
Compassion is at the core of our humanitarian efforts. Beyond saving lives, we are empowering survivors to rebuild a life beyond the horrors of war, to heal, and find a new purpose.
In summary, we are continuously providing on a monthly basis:
-
30k+ meals
-
200+ tons of medication and essential humanitarian aid
-
3000+ private doctor consultations
