“Skelya”

I had the great honor of meeting Yuriy Garkav, call sign “Skala,” at the Central Synagogue of Ukraine; he is the commander of the legendary “Skelya” assault regiment

We agreed that Jewish servicemen would be able to attend the synagogue, maintain ties with the community, and receive everything necessary for spiritual support

During such a difficult war, a person is sustained not only by endurance and professionalism, but also by an inner core that helps preserve faith in the Almighty

He also spoke about how he created one of the most technologically advanced and effective units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, how he drew on the experience of the Israel Defense Forces—specifically, mobile units based on pickup trucks—and how both combat operations and internal, spiritual work are organized within the unit itself

I blessed Yuriy, the “Skelya” assault regiment, and all the defenders of Ukraine—may the Almighty’s guardian angels accompany and protect them!
