The charitable organisation European Jewish Cemetery Preservation Initiative (ESJF) installed a fence around the cemetery with funding provided by the German Foreign Office.
An important stage in the preservation of Jewish heritage has been completed in the town of Mykolaiv, Stryi district, Lviv oblast. The charitable organisation European Jewish Cemetery Preservation Initiative (ESJF) installed a fence around the cemetery with funding provided by the German Foreign Office.
The cemetery, with 100 matzevot (headstones) dating from 1873 to 1940, is now protected by the new fence. This is a significant step in preserving the memory of the Jewish community destroyed during the Holocaust. Some of the victims died right on the cemetery grounds.
I thank ESJF and the German Foreign Office for their support. This initiative is a reminder of the importance of preserving memory and preventing such tragedies from happening again.
